Why I Don't Write Code: Engineering Freedom in the Age of AI

We have reached a point in the industry where writing code is the easy part. The frameworks are mature, the AI copilots are incredibly robust, and deployment takes seconds. But despite this technological abundance, people are more overwhelmed than ever.

I realised early on that my clients didn't actually want 'a web app.' They wanted their Friday evenings back. They wanted to stop manually copy-pasting data between five different spreadsheets while their family ate dinner without them.

That's why I stopped pitching 'Custom Code' and started pitching 'Freedom.' When I approach a new architecture, I am not looking for the most complex technical implementation. I am looking for the heaviest operational burden and explicitly designing a system to eliminate it.

Whether that means leveraging AI to turn rough discovery notes into a polished PDF in 3 seconds, or architecting a headless database simply to remove the need for human data entry - the end goal is always the same: give the user their life back.
