Independence Navigator: Architecting for Neurodivergent Executive Function

Navigating the world as a neurodivergent adult often means fighting a constant battle with 'Administrative Gravity.' Simple tasks like triaging emails or breaking down a large project become monumental hurdles when executive dysfunction is at play. I architected Independence Navigator to serve as a high-fidelity 'Safety Net' for these specific cognitive bottlenecks.

The core technical challenge was building an AI system that provides specialist support while maintaining 100% Data Sovereignty. Most AI tools require users to sacrifice their privacy for utility. For a vulnerable audience, this is unacceptable. I implemented a Stateless AI Decoder that uses the Gemini 2.5 Flash API to parse complex instructions and emails into plain English, extracting action items and drafting replies in a transient state. No user data is used for model training, and all history is stored locally in the browser.

We also addressed the 'Sensory Noise' common in productivity software. Independence Navigator utilises a Nordic-inspired, low-contrast palette and high-legibility typography (Atkinson Hyperlegible) to reduce cognitive load. The UI is designed to be 'Calm Technology': providing the user with their current internal state (via the Energy Tracker) and their next achievable step (via the Magic Task Creator) without aggressive notifications or high-friction animations.

The Magic Task Creator is perhaps the most significant operational unblocker. It uses specialised AI prompts to decompose overwhelming goals into atomic, 5-minute micro-steps. By including energy cost estimations and sensory preparation guides, we've transformed a generic to-do list into a compassionate, predictive copilot for independent living.

Ultimately, Independence Navigator proves that Accessibility is an Architectural Choice. By engineering privacy and sensory safety into the very foundation of the platform, we provide neurodivergent individuals with the tools to reclaim their autonomy and manage their digital lives with dignity.
